This Episode brought us Big Break’s version of speed golf with the Dye Course claiming the fourth contestant to be eliminated.
The show began on the The Dye Course’s hole #8 where teams competed in a quantity-based chip-based green chip shot test to determine the first immunity winners of the day. The catch was each chip shot could surpass the last. A poor showing left Christian, Brandt and Toph heading to the next immunity challenge along with team Carolin, Charlie and Emily. Team Anthony, Katy H and Tessa were the victorious team.
The day’s second immunity challenge was a speed challenge with the fastest team to hole out being the winner. No. 15 is an intimidating par 3 with an enormous amount of bunkering guarding a kidney shaped green. The pin was tucked behind a ridge in the middle of the green requiring a superb shot to get close.
Two man teams were comprised of Toph/Christian; Jimmy/ Charlie; Emily/Carolin and. Toph and Christian were teamed up once again. A bad shot by Christian sent them to this immunity challenge and this time were able to walk away victorious. Pinegger and Tubert also fell short on the speed challenge round by just one second. They lost valuable time when Carolyn watched her first putt roll by the cup, instead of chasing after it like everyone else. Six seconds separated the first team and last with only a second amongst the players who were immune to the next episode.
Winners of the immunity challenges were treated to a day trip to Myrtle Beach’s very own Skywheel. The 187-foot ferris wheel overlooks Myrtle Beach’s famed Ocean Boulevard and provided wonderful views of the newly renovated Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
For the first time Tuesday, Charlie Harrison was left with a decision on whether or not to use the Super Immunity he earned during the season premier. He was after all one of the final four still up for elimination. He elected to hold on to the $10,000. However, it didn’t matter. The second elimination challenge left Jimmy, Emily and Carolin competing against one another for a spot in the next show.
They started the first part of the challenge with an approach shot on our Dye Course’s No. 12. The three played from a side hill lie in the rough (ball above the feet) 112 yards from the hole. Emily was the only player to hit the green and two putted for a 3. Jimmy pulled his shot short left into the greenside bunker, but hit a superb shot and to holed his putt for a 3. Carolyn struggled on the hole. Her first shot almost made the green, before falling down a steep embankment guarding the front of the green. Pinegger’s chip shot made the green and from there needed three putts to finish. She was two stokes down entering into the final stage. Next, the players headed back to the tee to play the entire 12th hole.
“You have to really mess up to blow a two-shot lead with one hole to go,” said Brandt.
He almost proved it by having to take an unplayable, after he pulled his tee shot way left into thick fescue. Although Carolin birdied the hole, she was eliminated after here first stage performance. Having established herself as a favorite earlier in the series, a few bad shots sealed her fate.
With yet another female contestant being eliminated, half of the female players are now gone.
