Thornberry earns fourth AJGA victory
Migliaccio claims Girls Division title at Barefoot Resort & Golf
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Braden Thornberry of Olive Branch, Mississippi, carded a 4-under-par 67 in the final round of the Greg Norman Champions Golf Academy Junior Championship to secure his win with a tournament total 12-under-par 201. Emilia Migliaccio of Cary, North Carolina, was crowned the Girls Division champion after posting a 2-under-par 69 in the final round for a tournament total 2-under-par 211.
Thornberry earned the fourth win of his AJGA career with his victory at Barefoot Resort & Golf. In his second win of the summer, the Ole Miss verbal commit tallied four birdies, including one on No. 11 that moved him into the lead. Thornberry followed with another birdie on No. 12 and was able to maintain his lead throughout the rest of his back nine.
“I’m happy with the way I played today,” Thornberry said. “I tried to stay one step ahead the whole day and accomplished that goal with this win.”
Jacob Joiner of Leesburg, Georgia, finished in a close second after carding a 2-under-par 69 today for a tournament total 11-under-par 202. Finishing in third at 5-under-par 208 was Tyler Bakich of Valrico, Florida, who posted 1-over-par 72 in the final round. Fourth place went to Luis Ruiz of Mexico City, Mexico, who finished the final round with a score of 1-under-par 70 for a tournament total 4-under-par 209. Rounding out the top five in the Boys Division was Reese Ramsey of Austin, Texas, who recorded a 2-under-par 69 in today’s round to finish at 3-under-par 210.
With today’s win, Migliaccio claimed her second AJGA victory of the summer and her career. The Wake Forest verbal commit carded four birdies for the day, all on the front nine. Migliaccio said finishing in second at the Davis Love III Junior two weeks ago gave her more motivation heading into this week.
“Those birdies on the front nine really gave me some momentum for the day,” Migliaccio said. “I was able to keep it together on the back nine, which was thankfully enough to win.”
Emmy Martin of Odessa, Florida, carded a 2-under-par 69 in the final round to finish in second at 1-under-par 212. Third place went to Morgan Baxendale of Windermere, Florida, who posted a final-round score of 1-under-par 70 for a tournament total 2-over-par 215.
